Docker Street General Medical Centre
The Docker Street General Practice was opened in March 2009 in response to community demand for more general practitioners in the region. The practice principal is Dr Julian Fidge, a specialist Rural General Practitioner.
Dr Fidge completed his pharmacy training in 1998 and worked for 12 years as a pharmacist. He studied Computer Science at Swinburne University of Technology in 1992 and went on to study medicine at the University of Queensland. He graduated with his MBBS in 2000. He worked in Brisbane, mainly in emergency medicine and general surgery until he moved back to his family property in Docker, near Wangaratta, to begin his speciality training in Rural General Practice. He completed his specialist training in 2008, and has since worked in a Community Health Service, an Aboriginal Health Service and his own private practice.
Dr Fidge has special interests in minor surgery, military medicine and addiction medicine. He provides medical care for patients undergoing drug and alcohol rehabilitation at the Odyssey House program in Molyullah.
Dr Fidge is a Medical Officer with the Australia Army Reserve, and deployed to East Timor in 2006 with the ANZAC Battle Group as their Aeromedical Evacuation doctor. He has been awarded the Humanitarian Overseas Service Medal, the Australian Service Medal and the Defence Force Medal.
